Endangered Asian Turtle Species Under Control starting from 1st June 2004

Many species such as some freshwater turtles have been newly listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna & Flora (CITES). The control of these species under the Animals and Plants (Protection of Endangered Species) Ordinance, Cap.187, will take effect from 1st June 2004.

A licence is required to possess the 15 species/genus of asian freshwater turtles starting from 1st Jun 2004 which have been newly listed under the Animals and Plants (Protection of Endangered Species) Ordinance, Cap.187. Commencing from 1st June 2004. Below is the list of the species:

A grace period for possession will be given until 31st Aug 2004. Owners must submit application for Licence to Possess for the newly listed turtles now possessed (for both commercial/non- commercial purposes) before the grace period ends.
